Legislative and Public Policy Committee

NELA and NELA-NJ continue to take an active role in representing employees’ rights before New Jersey’s Legislative branches. Our national organization is very active in supporting important legislation in Congress, such as the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. In New Jersey, our efforts have been instrumental in legislative initiatives, such as the legislation which provided the right to a jury trial for discrimination claims. We speak out for the rights of New Jersey workers, many of whom have no other voice to speak for them. We have also spoken in favor and against judicial nominations, when they will have an affect on New Jersey’s workers.

Our Legislative and Public Policy committee coordinates efforts to submit legislation, assist in the passage of legislation, and/or testify in favor of legislation before the New Jersey State Assembly and Senate that advances and protects the rights of employees in New Jersey. The Committee also testifies against legislation that seeks to restrict the rights of New Jersey’s workers. Committee members have testified before various committees in Trenton on behalf of employee rights and reached out to legislators to explain the nuances and impact of certain legislation on New Jersey employees. In addition, the committee works with State agencies and Courts as an advocate for employee rights.
